Personal Authentication Certificates require the use of a web browser with certificate key generation properties. You can enable Internet Explorer Mode in your Microsoft Edge browser to use the certificate generation function built into Internet Explorer.
How to Enable Internet Explorer Mode in Microsoft Edge
Go to browser Settings by clicking the menu button on the top right and selecting Settings.
Go to "Default browser" in the left-hand menu. Here you will enable a few settings required to use Internet Explorer mode:
1. Set Let Internet Explorer open sites in Microsoft Edge to "Incompatible sites only (Recommended)"
2. Set Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode to "Allow"
3. Next to Internet Explorer mode pages, click the Add button.
After clicking Add, you will be prompted to enter the URL of the web page that should be loaded in Internet Explorer mode. Here you will enter the URL from the order form on your account.
After adding the order form URL, you should refresh the browser. You may be prompted to login to your account again.
You can be sure Internet Explorer mode is working when you see the banner under the URL bar. Do not click the "Open in Microsoft Edge" button.
Once you have confirmed Internet Explorer mode is enabled on the generation page, you may fill out the order form and submit the order.
Depending on the product purchased, you may be required to help the Certificate Authority verify your order details. Check your certificate email address for communication from the CA regarding validation.
After the validation process is completed, you will receive an email with instructions to collect your Personal Authentication Certificate. You will need to use Microsoft Edge with Internet Explorer Mode to collect the certificate. Check out our instructions for collecting a certificate in Microsoft Edge with IE mode here.
